Job Description



The Supply Chain Manager oversees the steps that comprise the supply chain process: planning, development, manufacturing, logistics and distribution.


Report directly to VP Operations.





Directs the process which includes the planning of procurement, production, inventory control, logistics and distribution. The manager ensures that every step of the process is functioning effectively to avoid costly delays and lost sales opportunities.

Assist in the development of a company wide Category Purchase Strategy for commodities.

Define and map the supply chain for all products, identifying critical path items in the supply chain.

Investigate and review providers on capacity to deliver, reliability, financial and market position.

Develop strategies for multiple sourcing of key critical services and components, when required by business needs, identify suitable tactical alternatives to key components.

Mange strategic relationships with key suppliers, vendors, industry bodies and information technology systems.

Maintain and track life cycle for critical components ensuring that end of life and transition to new suppliers or upgrades is managed ahead of the end of life event,

The supply chain manager must communicate his needs and objectives to line managers and key personnel in procurement, development/manufacturing, logistics and distribution to make the process run smoothly.

Consult with Product Management to identify needs for new product technologies to facilitate early establishment of suppliers.

Assist to the establishment of best commercial practices and reduction of purchasing costs; cost reduction and process improvement are initiatives for effective supply chain management.

Assist in the negotiation and management of purchasing contracts, handle claims, cancellations, contract changes, fines. (?)

Develop and maintain documentation in support of key supplier and development initiatives.

Provide support to the project board and checkpoints for Projects.

Represent the company in internal and external forums.

Management of key risks on behalf of the Procurement Division.

The Supply Chain Manager will drive the following Key Performance Indicators:
- Inventory turns and dollars
- Inventory accuracy
- Year over year supplier cost reduction
- Shipping and Receiving accuracy
- Supplier Quality, On Time Delivery, and Service

Manage the inventory and planning department staff and all capital goods (finished goods, raw materials and supplies).

Oversees the development and maintenance of the master production schedule and work orders.


Direct and oversee the creation and release of purchase requisitions for raw materials, including cartridge empties, to ensure inventory and delivery performance are meeting production and customer demand.


Revises schedule according to work order specifications, established priorities, and availability or capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.


Distributes daily/weekly requirements to departments, denoting number, type, and proposed completion date of units to be produced.


Confers with department supervisors and managers to determine progress of work and to provide information on relevant changes to plans.


Plan production material and manpower resources needed to support key business objectives of customer service, inventory investment, system integrity, and available capacity.


Monitor the inventory and production planning processes in order to ensure the execution of Lean best practices.

Manage the ERP/MRP system to ensure schedule and inventory accuracy.

Support the development, documentation, training and implementation of new system enhancements, performance standards, and reporting formats.

Manage all month-end closing and reporting functions related to inventory.
Support new product introduction by liaising with R&D, Sales, Operations, and other departments to insure seamless customer service.

Responsible for production stock level review and replenishment, planning inventory by analyzing customer forecasts.

Develop and manage KPI illustrating inventory performance to goals including inventory turns, excess and obsolescence, variances, and material shortages.


Develop and manage KPI to monitor actual production versus plan (daily, weekly, and year-to-date).

Oversee annual physical inventory.

Demonstrated ability to influence and coach team members at all levels.

Job Requirements
Education/Experience: Bachelors Degree in a business-releated field plus minimum of 5 years experience in resource planning, production control planning and inventory control in a progressive manufacturing environment. Advanced knowledge of accounting principles. APICS certification is a plus or must be open to become APICS certified. Proficient in Microsoft email, Word, and above average Excel skills required.

Experience with Lean Manufacturing, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 is beneficial.

Skills: Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Must have strong organizational, analytical, and self-management skills. Excellent communication skills, networking, negotiation and other people skills are essential to gather information to coordinate plans, schedules and changes.
