Position Title: Research Scientist
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Type: Full-time, Salaried Exempt
Reports To: Development Manager
Travel: up to 25%Description
The Research Scientist will provide technical project leadership and technical guidance to junior staff. This will be accomplished by serving as the primary design and production scientist and taking the lead in authoring proposals and technical reports. Additionally, the Research Scientist will accompany Sales Personnel to client sites for hands-on demonstrations and project support when needed.
Additional responsibilities:
•Product development from concept-to-market.
•Providing leadership and training to technical staff on procedures and instrumentation.
•Developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
•Working with sales to develop marketing for new business opportunities, authoring proposals and technical reports for presentation at conferences.
•Representing Evogen Inc. as a technical expert.
•Reviewing data for accuracy and completeness.
•Managing projects and programs.
•Conducting standard data analysis as directed by project leader.
•Performing peer review of data and reports.
Requirements
•M.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant PCR experience; or a B.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Biochemistry plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant PCR experience.
•Proficient oral and written communication skills.
•Experience working in a BSL-2.
•Experience with proposal writing, project management, and current instrumentation including PCR is desired.
•Proficient PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
•Leadership abilities with strong problem solving aptitude. Ability to assess a project group’s talent by examining individual capabilities and skill levels.
•Ability to effectively communicate expectations, assess client needs, gain acceptance of an idea/plan/activity/product, and interact with technical staff and sales personnel at all levels in a team-based environment.
•Establishes a course of action to accomplish a specific project or goal; plans proper assignments of personnel and appropriate allocation of resources; determines schedule of events in conjunction with the sales team; communicates expectations about tasks and deadlines; develops contingency plans.
•Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
•Well organized and methodical, yet flexible in adjusting priorities, and able to take risks to accomplish goals.
•Ability to organize activities and focus on priority goals and problem areas.
•Willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
